Minneapolis Art Events

Summertime is all about the art fairs with two of the Twin Cities’ biggest – Uptown and Powderhorn – taking place this weekend. The Casket Arts Building is throwing a party for its last First Thursday of the summer, and SooCAV is celebrating 15 years.

The Summer Shindig

August 4th 5:00-10:00pm

shindig1Casket Arts is kicking up their regular First Thursday event a few notches this week. Summer Shindig includes open studios but is also moving the party outside where there will be live music, food trucks, and art activities. Plus, Upper Midwest Great Dane Rescue will be there where you can learn more about adopting dogs. Inside, along with the open studios, is a t-shirt printing station, food, and DJs. The Art of Shape-Shifting, an interactive event, will take place on the first floor which will blend visual and aural experiences. At the end of the evening, there will be an outdoor screening of Bikes v. Cars.

Uptown Art Fair

Uptown’s annual art festival takes place this weekend. The fair includes over 350 local, national, and international artists who will present a diverse range of mediums. The weekend consists of a variety of other events, including a culinary arts competition, a Summit beer garden, interactive art activities presented by Northern Clay Center, live music, and a youth art fair that provides the opportunity for those under 18 to display and sell their work. Nearly 400,000 attend the Uptown Art Fair each year, making it the 2nd most attended event in the state following the Minnesota State Fair.

Powderhorn Art Fair

It’s a weekend of art fairs, with the Powderhorn Art Fair going on this weekend too. The fair consists of 184 regional and national artists that cover a variety of disciplines. A community showcase of artists in the Powderhorn neighborhood is also featured. Located in a picturesque city park that cover 66 acres, the Powderhorn Art Fine is regarded as one of the finest juried, regional art fairs in the country

Love, SooVAC: A Celebration of 15 Years of Visual Art

To celebrate 15 years of SooVAC, the art center is hosting a one night only exhibition titled Love, SooVAC. SooVAC invited every artist who has previously exhibited in their space to create a work on a postcard. All returned postcards will be exhibited and available for purchase. The evening will include music by Lori Barbero and Sarah White. Additionally, MN Nice Cream and Moral Omnivore food trucks will be on site.
